Members
The HKA Board is comprised of 8 Directors: 2 Founder, 3 Elected and 3 Appointed.
The following are the Directors in alphabetical order:
Paul Bernard
B.A. from Holy Cross College and MBA from Stanford. Paul has been with Goldman Sachs for 15 years, 12 of those years in Hong Kong. He is currently a partner in the firm and Co-Director of Pan Asia Investment Research, in which position he manages approximately 280 people in 8 countries. He has two children at the school.
Priya Bhatia
B.A. in Economics and Computer Science from Rutgers University. She worked in Information Technology both as a consultant and with private firms. Prior to moving to HK, she served on the Board of ECLC International School in Seoul for 2 1/2 years, with 2 of those years as Chairman of the Board of Management. She has two children at the school.
Bill Cotter
B.A. from Boston College and MBA from both Columbia and London Business School. Bill is the CEO of CIGNA Worldwide Life Insurance Company and CIGNA Worldwide General Insurance Company with over 300 employees here in Hong Kong. He has one child that attends HKA.
Ben Frankel (Founder)
Ben, a U.S. attorney resident in Hong Kong for the past 14 years, co-founded Hong Kong Academy in July 2000 and served as its Administrative Director until August 2006 and Chairman of the Board of Management until May 2007. He holds a Masters degree and completed Ph.D. studies in Art History from the University of Chicago, a J.D. from the University of California School of Law, and an M.B.A. from the Kellogg School of Management and Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. Prior to launching Hong Kong Academy, Ben served on the boards of the Ezekiel Abraham School and the United Jewish Congregation of Hong Kong. His daughter was one of the three "founding students" at HKA.
Peter Ho
B.A. in Finance & Management from University of Utah and MBA from the University of Chicago. Peter worked in investment banking in NY and, from 1994 in his native Hong Kong (where he returned in 1994), subsequently was involved in the expansion of a start-up business in the telecom industry, and until recently was the CEO of a Hong Kong listed manufacturing company with over 4,000 employees, mostly in China. His son attends HKA.
Robyn Joseph
Robyn has been a consultant in the field of issues and crisis management for twenty years. Robyn's particular areas of expertise are industrial incidents with both environmental and occupational health and safety implications; and complex legislative and legal situations, such as incidents that emerge through whistle-blower and media rumor, that threaten corporate reputation. Her role is to assess risk; then to implement strategies that minimize risk through systems design and executive training. Robyn has lived in Hong Kong since 1996. She has been a member of the Hong Kong Academy community since September 2002. She has a son and a daughter at the school.
Christina Clark O'Hare
B.A. in Art History and Education from Smith College and Masters in Education from Harvard University. For 6 years after college graduation, Christie taught various primary grades in the Rhyl Primary School in London and for three of those years served as the teacher representative on the school's Board of Governors. After earning her Masters, Christie taught at an innovative charter school in Boston where, among other things, she led development of their middle school. She has a two children at the school.
Teresa Richman (Founder)
Teresa has twenty years experience as an educator, administrator and school psychologist. She co-founded the Hong Kong Academy and led its education program from inception in 2000 until 2006. Prior to founding HKA she was involved in the development of other educational organizations in Hong Kong. She has a B.S. in Education from the State University of New York, College at Old Westbury and a M.S. in Educational Psychology as well as a Professional Certificate in School Psychology from Queen's College. She has two children at the school.
