HKA SCUBA Club
HKA Middle School students have the opportunity to learn to SCUBA dive with the School. SCUBA diving as a recreation fits in very well with the philosophy of the Hong Kong Academy for several reasons. First, it is inclusive. It is a sport that can be shared by all members of the family over 10 years old and readily lends itself to family holidays around Asia. Second, it provides participants with a better knowledge and understanding of the marine environment and issues facing it. This fits into students' learning areas, particularly in Science and studies of the environment and environmental issues. Third, a diving qualification allows students broader opportunities for community service in areas such as beach clean-ups, fish counts, and reef repair. Finally, it gives the students the opportunity to advance their training, at least, to the level of PADI Rescue Diver. This is the third level of PADI Training and, unlike the first two, which emphasise the acquisition of personal skills and qualifications, this level focuses on developing skills and knowledge in order to help others. The courses offered through HKA give students and their families the opportunity to become qualified divers to whatever level they wish and give already qualified divers the opportunity to further develop their skills.  Since September 2007, eighteen students, parents, and staff have gained PADI Open Water qualifications through the club.

Math Olympiad
Math Olympics is an ACAMIS sponsored event for HKA Middle School students to test their math, logic, and critical thinking skills against other international school students in the region. We generally practice once a week after school in the months leading up to the event. Students work within their grade level and on coed teams of 4. This year’s event was held at QSI International School in Sheko

Model United Nations
Model United Nations (MUN) is an after-school activity that enables students to gain hands-on experience about what the real United Nations does on a day-to-day basis. Model United Nation clubs are assigned various countries that students must research; in addition, students gain knowledge on the structure of the UN and diplomatic responsibilities. Much of this activity is focused on preparing participants for a MUN weekend conference, where students from various international schools convene to represent their countries, promote their interests, and learn how to work together to address global problems and promote the common good.
